On this week’s MOP Podcast, we joked about how Project Gorgon might be the only MMORPG out there where you can legitimately play as a Pig – not just a pig person, but an actual adorable pink pig with a whole skill bar. And next week, a whole server is going to get to see the pig in all its glory. Did we say “see”? We meant “be.”
Elder Game announced in the wee hours of this morning that when it launches Project Gorgon’s new fresh start server, it’s mostly aiming it at newbies who are brand-new to the game, so to reduce the advantages veteran players have over everyone else, the game is gonna put them into “forced pig mode” for a week or so. There’s a sentence that has never been typed before.
“You may have heard about it in-game, and it’s true: if you first logged into your Project: Gorgon account before December 1 2025, when you create an alt on the new server you will be forcefully turned into a pig for the first week of that server’s life,” Gorgon’s Eric Heimburg says.
“We’re calling this the ‘Support Pig’ effect, because the Pig skill is an excellent group-support skill, and we’d love for you to help support newbies this way. (But of course your actual actions are up to you.) We hope long-term players see this for what it is: just another challenge for you to conquer. Even with this extra wrinkle, I still expect to see level 50/50 players dancing in Serbule by the end of the second day. But they’ll be pigs. Newbies will be able to ‘get it’ a lot easier this way. Why this solution? Because of all the solutions we brainstormed, this seemed like the most fun challenge for you! You know how to play this game. Create a pig guild, help each other overcome the lack of hands. Figure out skill unlocks together. Get it solved. It’s a UNIX system; you know this.”
If you’re one of those people who has owned the game for a long time and maybe played a few hours years ago, you can apply to have your account totally wiped so you can start fresh, no pig mode for you. But of course, it does mean a wipe. And the process for doing this is pretty slap-dash and dangerous; you just type “I call upon the Mighty Jack to reset my account” into the game, and the devs will do it; there’s no cancel or undo button, and don’t even bother trying to trick people into it because the devs will ban you.
Honestly, this might just be the Most Project Gorgon the game has ever been.
