Elder Scrolls Online sold 138,000 digital editions in June

A new Superdata report covering June is surprisingly glowing about the MMO industry. MMOs, combined with social and mobile titles, accounted for $660 million in revenue and increased 13.5% from the month previous.

The report praises Elder Scrolls Online as being the key factor for the market growth. The fantasy MMO sold 138,000 digital copies last month in addition to any box sales, making it the third biggest seller for June. The report also notes that the pay-to-play MMO market was up 7% from last year for a total of $50 million.

Elder Scrolls Online has been topping the PlayStation charts as of late and was a big seller right out of the gate in the UK.

SoMuchMass SpaceOdyssey No there are some other guys who are perhaps better at it, but they tend to be the more quiet money guys. I’m not saying Superdata is bad, but they aren’t the only ones in the game.

Morningrise  I liked ESO at first when I tried it on pc. But the rampant animation cancelling turned me off and made me lose interest. If they ever stop people in the game from doing that, I’ll come back.

Hope things have smoothed out enough for them since console launch so we see more content, content, CONTENT!

Or ones trying to knock a SWTOR. Their 160 million yearly income upsets the TorTanic crowd.

mandodo69 SoMuchMass My point it is more valid than something you assume or guess, which will never be quoted on a reputable news site or organization.

Estranged SoMuchMass SpaceOdyssey You were told it was BS, because fanboy’s of certain games probably didn’t like what it had to say.

Werent these the same people who said FF XIV ARR had only made x amount of money one year and come to find out Square Enix never reports of financial or subscription numbers.

Stated by the president and CEO of SE too. Weird how Superdata works. But this ONLY count for DIGITAL, very vague if they count any at all boxes sold, PLAYSTATION, copies in the UK ONLY.

What about PC, other regions, etc.

Not world wide. The numbers could be shitty here for all we know.

SoMuchMass Porculasalvania SpaceOdyssey  Only because there is no competition to show them up. The numbers are useless.

SoMuchMass SpaceOdyssey  Being the only provider of financial information on the games industry, does not make them good. Superdata has no idea what these games really are, or which category they belong in, frequently lumping LoL and WoW into the same chart. Furthermore, they display a consistent failure to understand and reveal what really drives sales numbers. Worst of all, they do not reveal where there numbers come from, it’s a load of made up hooey.

Great to see some good news for both ESO and the other marketing options other than F2P.

With the announcement of Imperial City FINALLY coming into the game and hopefully more content quickly after that things might be looking up for ESO.

Nice to see ESO starting to do well.  Glad that year of “console beta” paid off.  Hopefully it means Zenimax can start moving ahead with frequent content updates now.

SpaceOdyssey They’re pretty decently established, and other gaming sites (like this one as welll as Gamesindustry.biz) tend to site them as sources.

SpaceOdyssey At the moment, Superdata is the source for video game financial related info.  Including being used at the top media companies in the world.  There is actually nothing better.  Remember that name, you are going to see it very often.

Good for them . I intend to go back at the end of August when they make the veteran levels easier and give more experience for doing dungeons and pvp . I liked it I just got fed up being forced to quest in areas of other factions and do very similar quests to what I’ve done in my own .

Remember when people were making fun of ESO for putting out those videos teaching people the basics of MMOs?  It is probably because ESO brought in people like this to not only the gaming space but to the MMO space.  Which is a great thing.

The article clearly says it’s console digital copies, not PC, and only for the US market.
NPD data for June 2015 shows ESO was #2 in physical sales in the US.
