Dauntless has already seen over a million characters rolled in its open beta

If you were worried that Dauntless might be crushed under the weight of the Monster Hunter Online release, fear not. If anything, Monster Hunter’s popularity, coupled with its distant PC release, seems to be driving players straight into the open arms of Dauntless’ free-to-play open beta.

“The Dauntless Open Beta has exceeded all of our expectations,” Phoenix Labs wrote this week. “From the number of Slayers that have arrived to forge their legends, to their determination to stand against the Behemoth onslaught, to the unique creations that Dauntless players are creating — we’re blown away.” Notably, the company’s infographic counts over a million characters rolled, almost 4000 guilds created, and 6.3M hours played. Also, you guys still really like black dye.

The game’s latest tester patch fix a bunch of bugs, including issues with controllers, store load times, reputation tracks, volume, and hotkeys. Plus: “Slayers in the lobby will now probably have their hair and titles properly displayed. I’m not just the president of Hair Club for Men, I’m also a client!” The infographic is below!

Was never able to log into the game. Once I was in the queue for 16 hours, and probably in bed when it popped. Tried logging in the next day and was #200,000 in line. Promptly uninstalled it.

The game has great combat, arguably better than Monster Hunter later on; with some really creative mechanics… but it still suffers from being repetitive and has too many same-ish looking ennemies (even if they do get different attacks).

Outside of adding new behemoths, weapons and maps, they really need more reasons to stick around with people, sure the game gets hard enough that random PUG are not preferable, but I’d like to chill and do other stuff once in a while.

This game in a year could become really big. They have a very solid foundation and it will only grow from here.

I plan on playing this along with MHW when it comes to pc

I’ve been having fun smashing things with a hammer, it’s probably the most heavy, meaty feeling weapon I’ve ever used in a game. The game is a bit repetitive though, and there are some design choices I disagree with, but there is a lot of potential there. It’s going to be a good game with some more development time.

That’s how I’m feeling: the combat is fun, but it feels like it could repetitive rather quickly. I also appreciate that it’s a F2P game that doesn’t immediately hit you over the head ten different ways to try to get you to spend money. I’ll be keeping my eye on it an dipping my toes in occasionally. If I can get one or two friends to play with me that’ll be even better.

I wonder how many of those characters are still being played

The message below so far is, ” Neat game. Monster Hunter lite. Gets repetitive quickly. Needs more content/mechanics.”

Pretty much spot on.

Yeah, I’ve never played any kind of MH-style games in my life, so this was a pleasant distraction for a few hours. However, it’s just not my kind of gameplay, so I shall be uninstalling again soon. I do appreciate that it was only a 5 Gb download though. that was very helpful.

I am counted in that but I only played it for a couple of hours, got bored and uninstalled it. Don’t see myself going back as the game play loop doesn’t hold any appeal to me after trying it out.

I’m about to add one more! I didn’t realize this was in open beta yet, but I love Monster Hunter, and I’m really interested to see the Dauntless take on the formula.
