In the name of nautical cat nonsense!
“Fledgling adventurers continue to arrive in Eorzea in droves,” says Square, “and we are pleased to announce that the realm is now home to four million registered accounts.” According to Square, that number represents global registered accounts and does not include trial accounts.

To celebrate, Final Fantasy XIV is hosting a free login campaign that starts Friday, February 27th, at 3:00 a.m. EST and runs through Monday, March 9th, at 4:00 a.m. EST. You’ll need to have previously purchased and registered your copy of A Realm Reborn and have an inactive account to be eligible. Alternatively there’s a 14-day Steam demo.

The four million figure represents a healthy increase from the 2.5 million reported by Square in December, 2014.

I knew the game felt incredibly active. Hurray! It’s such a quality title with some fantastic writing. I’m glad to see it’s getting it’s reward. Yes, we need to see more and more MMOs survive. What’s great is all those people are paying subs. Who said a subscription model is dead? Not me! Cha Ching!

Again the market for subbed mmo’s isn’t dead; the market for BAD subbed mmo’s is.

Game is fun to some and not to others. I will never understand why so many people give a shit what others like to play.
1. Many of the servers are full at peak hours, every day. Not just during new content, not just during free weekends.
2. Game gets more content updates than ANY other mmo active today. Please don’t use GW2, There is NO depth to any part of that game and their “Living Story”

3. People who complain about the lack of content. Get a life. It is not any devs fault that you spend 80 hours a week playing the game, hit end game and cry that you have nothing to do. People are fucking starving around the world and you have these jack asses complaining, WHY CANT YOU SUPPORT MY POOR GAMING HABITS?

4. To each their own. In a market were we are so over saturated with MMOs 4 million copies of a game that sells on average for $30 is nothing to mock. Take a look at the size of the dev team, vs sales, vs active uses. I think SE is doing just fine. This game brought them from out of the red, into the black and now into the green on their earnings.

In the end nothing will ever reach the peak that WOW has. No one needs to. You can be very successful and never come close to WOW numbers.
