Nexon, Smilegate top eastern revenue charts

Last year was a very good year indeed for Nexon, which made $393M in revenue in 2014. However, Smilegate clambered up to second place with an impressive $275.8M during the same period, largely thanks to the success of the online shooter CrossFire.

MMO Culture has a chart on the top 10 publishers in Asia for last year. Third place went to NCsoft, followed by Netmarble and Com2uS. We’ll be keeping a particular close eye on Smilegate, as the company is in charge of handling the gorgeous-looking OARPG Lost Ark.

Oh Smilegate is a company??
I clicked on it expecting a juicy controversy about exclusive cash shop sales of Smile Emotes to a select substrata of elite players …

Lost Arc looks awesome, so let’s hope Smilegate continues to do so well that they forge ahead with that NA version they’ve been hoping to send our way after LA’s Asian launch….

Greaterdivinity Dystopiq And the worst part is, Maplestory is generating revenue. They butchered that game. I used to love it.

It does make me wonder just what sort of metrics they list as “profitable”. I find it hard to believe that upkeep costs over there are any different–or cheaper–than in the West.

Dystopiq Asians. Not sure the breakdown of their revenue per country over there, but Asia is the overwhelming lionshare of their revenue, with NA/EU being super small.

Looking at the profit percentages for each company is interesting. Like seeing that Nexon and Smilegate both actually had very similar profit numbers (roughly 150B KRW), despite the revenue gap between their revenue being about 130B KRW. Or Neowiz and GAMEVIL sitting at 1.4/.7% profit percentages respectively, which is extremely low.
Interesting stuff.
