Descent returns… as a MOBA Kickstarter hopeful

Descent Underground

Remember 1995? I don’t, mostly because I was either playing Descent or catching matinee screenings of Braveheart. The former is making a comeback of sorts, if a Kickstarted MOBA called Descent: Underground can be considered a comeback.

The project is led by former Star Citizen producer Eric “Wingman” Peterson. It makes use of the Unreal 4 engine to power a “6DoF MOBA type of combat game” boasting 16-player teams and the usual capture-the-flag and deathmatch game modes.

Austin-based Descendant Studios is looking to raise $600,000 over the next 30 days and plans to release the title in 2016.

Descent: Underground will include tech trees and RPG-style elements to let players design their own strategic, impressive spaceships.

However, we know that purists loved Descent’s no-frills dog fighting too. For multiplayer matches we will include an option to turn off power progression. If you want everyone to be flying the same ship, with no tech tree bonuses or asymmetrical gameplay differences, you still can. We support players who want pure tests of skill!

Zaubermancy i hope “character progression” is not part of the “modernization”.
unless its relegated to single player only.
or is limited to ship/avatar appearance only.
character power progression in multiplayer is a fundamental problem.
many people will never play MOBAs and such because of that.

Greetings from Descendent Studios, developers of this exciting
game!

Just to clarify, Descent: Underground is not going to be a MOBA
revamp of Descent.
Game play will take place in first-person shooter spacecraft.
Players will be able to battle each other in deathmatch arenas, or enjoy
exciting solo campaigns.

We’re staying true to the arcade action of classic
Descent, but also hope to update the experience for modern audiences.

page!

If I were Chris Roberts, I’d have booted out that fat lad, too.

I wonder how long will take so Eric starts to offer 2500 dollars “descent” ships, just “for fun” of its backers.

I wouldn’t call a moba reboot as decent return.
