Hey, I have a question. I like the game and now I’m thinking about buying some gems. I’ve found this place https://www.g2a.com/r/cheap-gems-lowest-price
What do you think?

Crueltylizer  Chests give a better influx of money via those who buy them, yeah, but it kind of screws everyone else over.
SMITE was doing just fine prior to introducing chests.  It made some great strides and Hi-Rez has been making enough $$$ to give 50 free gems weekly (if you diligently login daily) and do free gem events on a monthly basis.  Hell they probably made several million off of the Odyssey stuff considering only $2 went to the SWC prize pool for every 200 gems purchased.

The only chest that was really good was the Odyssey Chest because you always got something worth more than 200 gems out of it.   If you got a VP you’d get a 3-day Booster on top of it, for example.   Everything since then has just been playing primarily to whales and totally screws over skin collectors who aren’t able to spend ~$30+ just to get what they want.

Crueltylizer Narayan Sorenthaz  Nah, chances are it will be made available via a chest or something, similar to the Latin America Chang’e skin (forget what it’s called) and Sydney Shredder He Bo. Both celebrated the openings of Smite in respective regions (Latin America/Australia) and they were both accessible in the International 2014 Chest.

Cupid rotation? welp, time to uninstall this game till next one.
The game is already filled with cheap gank teams with no tactics but button mashing. This will make matches even worse.

Narayan Crueltylizer Sorenthaz Yes I can understand that. And as such I dont think its intended audience is someone like you. I’m not saying it as a bad thing at all. Its more the audience that it does cater to, which is me forexample, just happily throw our money at the screen as soon as we see something exclusive. No matter the cost. These are the audience they are trying to cater with those skins.

I just saw they revealed the new France inspired Athena skin, which is also exclusive. How exclusive is yet unknown, but that will undoubtedly also be a expensive chest exclusive. Or maybe only for attendees at the France event.

Crueltylizer Of course they need to sell skins, VPs, ward skins, etc. And I do buy those skins, VPs, ect. I would gladly buy Artemis Primal Huntress for example, but not for 50$ !!! Come on! Buying fluff in Smite is already quite expensive, but 50$ for a single skin is just ridiculous (and this is like the cheapest exclusive – some others can end up costing you up to 300$).
Why such cost? Because Primal Huntress was chest exclusive (obtainable only by testing your luck on lockbox chest – that’s whatSorenthaz was talking about). Single chest roll cost 400 gems & contained chance for 1 of 8 items. Knowing my luck, I would probably roll Primal Huntress last, so 8×400 = 3200 gems. Pack of 3500 gems costs 50$ / 40€. So there you go. And there are chests that contain over 140 items …
And before you say that even with my rotten luck rolling Primal Huntress last I would end up owning not only her but also those 7 other chest items, I will tell you this – if I wanted any of those other items I would have bought them already, since only the Huntress was an exclusive, the others are or were available for purchase normally, single items. So if I don’t have them by now it means I don’t want them – they only serve the purpose of artificially inflating the price of an item I want.
If they dropped Primal Huntress as a time (not chest) exclusive for regular price of 400-600 gems, hell, even for 800 gems – Hi-Rez would have gotten my money. But since they made her an expensive gamble I had to skip her.

Sorenthaz They probably wont. Smite is a free to play game. All gods can be purchased with in-game currency. The only way to make money is from sponsors and gem sales. So they need to sell those skins, voicepacks, wards, icons etc.

I’m guessing to ensure more moneyflow to keep up with development is having people spend more money to get the exclusives.

I really hope that with the skin re-pricing that they’ll maybe consider toning down how many skins they keep throwing into RNG chests…
