The Daily Grind: Have you bought real-world memorabilia for an MMO?

I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone that I’m a pretty big fan of Final Fantasy XIV. Despite that fact, it may surprise readers to know that my home is not only not covered in various FFXIV merchandise, but I don’t actually own much of what does exist in the first place. I just don’t feel the need to pay the money and buy more merch for the game.

Then again, maybe it wouldn’t surprise you. I know there are people out there who will happily have a logo from a favored game on every piece of clothing and/or furniture; I also know there are extremely dedicated fans out there who don’t own a single collector’s edition. So what about you? Have you bought real-world memorabilia for an MMO, either for associated in-game bonuses or just because you really like the game?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

I do have a bunch of CE boxes. Hubby bought me some t shirts, and I have a coffee mug and sweatshirt from a game forum I used to contribute to. Not much considering I’ve been playing mmo’s for 13 years now.

I’m nerdy enough to have a coffee mug and a mouse pad with my guild logo on them, but I’ve never been interested in RL game merchandise.

13 years ago after getting very drunk I started detailing a business plan to import NCSoft merchendise from Korea.
When I woke up the following afternoon I had a splitting headache and several pages of scrawl that went straight into the bin. That is the closest I have ever got to buying real goods from an MMO company.

I got one TSW t-shirt.   http://www.welovefine.com/animalager-4532/search/the+secret+world.html

Agartha Premium Lager – Taste and See!    (if you play TSW, that’s pretty hilarious….)

I’m rather fond of my con hat collection =D But, I didn’t buy any of it.

Never, to my recollection.

The funny thing is, I probably would buy the odd real-world “cool trinket’ related games I truly love — except that what’s typically offered as MMORPG merch is usually so very underwhelming.

Cheaply-made t-shirts with the game logo on them? Studio baseball caps? Keychains? Mousepads?
It’s typically the same stuff from game to game, and it’s stuff I don’t really want or need, so I haven’t taken the plunge yet.

I got myself a couple of bits of TSW-themed merchandise from an online seller that had an official deal with FC for it. Got a couple of faction-themed bags, Orochi logo T and Innsmouth Academy mug. Was rather pricey but I have got plenty of use out of them.

For Final Fantasy XIV… I tend the buy the stuff that comes with in game rewards as well. Did so for Final Fantasy XI with keyfob that came with the extra inventory space. :) Worth it. :)
