Leaderboard: What’s your favorite online action RPG?

Online action RPGs aren’t really MMOs per se, but Massively has been covering them for quite a while anyway. I’ve only played one of what I would consider to be the genre giants (well, two, if you count the five minutes that I logged in Path of Exile), so I’m curious as to the feelings of the MOP readership regarding the more popular OARPGs of the moment.

What say you? What’s your favorite OARPG? Vote after the cut!

None of them since all of them have the same dissuading factor for me: isometric view. When i venture into a rpg world i want to be able to stare and lose myself to the landscapes not constantly seeing the godamn floor. I’m not saying they’re bad games, just not my thing.

orrruh Radfist  Actually, in gaming action first meant just that, whatever action your character took.  It has since come into being a genre association.  Where Tera is action combat, the meaning of action combat and action RPG in the genre are different, and have been fairly well established.
Basically, you can think of it as being a game with tiny bits of roleplaying elements in a high action setting.  Tera, on the otherhand, has a much more developed story.  In other words, Tera has a lot more RPG in it than an ARPG.  The other elements beside hack and slash are essentially minimalized in an ARPG.
An ARPG could be designed with any visual system, but when you include a lot more of the other parts like story, character customization, deeper crafting, etc. you are no longer in ARPG land.  So, no, you missed the point of our replies.  Isometric in itself is just a view point style.  The games in question fall within different genres, including pure action games (generally action-adventures like batman,) action rpgs, action combat MMORPGs, action combat RPGs, isometric RPGs, and so on.
Thank you, I hope this has helped inform you a little on the genres associated in this thread.

Radfist orrruh ya’ll missed the ^%&*ing point, mmo is irrelevant, action always referred to games like batman/tera/dcuo/etc.  not just isometric.

I like fantasy and my pick is PoE. I’m not into superheroes in modern day setting.

MH has over 40 classes and gets new ones every month or two, plus they have regular updates, constant communication with the players and all the content is free and available (paying just gets things faster).

Marvel Heroes was created by David Brevik. The guy that made Diablo and Diablo II. He invented the ARPG in my eyes.

Llokki Oh, I misinterpreted your comment. Thank you for clarifying.

I don’t like OARPGs.  Not into grinding and most of them seem to have hideously terrible control schemes.  I can’t play click-to-move games, full stop.

deekay_zero I think MH has a lot of fans, plus half of the MOP podcast is dedicated to MH every week.
