Champions Online’s lifetime sub goes on sale

Even superheroes deserve a break now and then. Champions Online is temporarily reducing the cost of its lifetime subscription with a month-long sale, giving players the opportunity to snag a “forever or until the servers shut down” gold membership.

The sale takes 33% off the normal asking price of $299, bringing down the price nearly a hundred bucks. The lifetime sub includes several free character slots, all archetypes unlocked, 500 ZEN a month, more costume sets, and all veteran rewards.

Champions Online is running this sale until August 27th, so you have until then to decide if you want to take advantage of the deal.

Semantic, or as I learned the other day, she man tactics. I feel terribly let down by my life time sub. I update it once I. A while which never takes long because they never add anything new to it. I don’t know the exact definition of maintenance mode but it seems to mean the game is being lest on with no one giving a damn to do anything with it development wise. If they is some new great thing on the horizon I would love to hear about it. But if there is, they sleeping it to themselves.

No Arcadia:City of Gold.

No Well of the Worlds.

No Sunday Pond.

No Hudson City.

No ‘Gateway’ Until Space Station.

No Atlantis.

No Lyonesse.

A Ravenwood Academy that is a shadow of it’s source-book incarnation, with default buildings chosen for the school (when they could of chosen something more appropriately architectual and Xavier’s Mansion-esque from existing assets from Vibora Bay) – and with it plopped ludicrously a stone’s throw from the middle of the Renaissance-Center.  Pure developer laziness incarnate.
Can you Imagine Bioware’s Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO Six years down the line still with no Tatooine, Korriban, Hoth, or Corescant in-game?, no?…. well why does PWE/Cryptic think it’s acceptable to treat the thirty-year-old Champions IP so poorly regarding it’s online incarnation?. Talk about wasted potential!.
Why on Earth would anyone subscribe to an MMO that has not communicated AT ALL (re: future development) with it’s player base on the official forums in the last 3+ years?.
Do NOT waste your time (or money) on an MMO that is not going anywhere – and on a studio that is not even remotely creatively invested and excited in it’s own superhero MMO and self-owned IP.

Well, a CO story has 114 comments and counting, most making the provably false claim that

Thing is, if this sale goes to plan, they may get a good enough money injection to offer up a better update cadence.
Or, on the more cynical side, it’s the last tugs at the udder for the milk before shutdown.
It could be read in either way. Hard to fully know for sure. But I will agree that perhaps an announcement of a large update to stand alongisde the offer would sell it more I think.

LegendOfVinnyT breetoplay Peregrine_Falcon  yes.  Please set up a second tier of editorial discretion when it comes to Champions Online.  Everyone seems to have reached consensus that the game needs more help than its worth, and I don’t like when opinions don’t line up with my own.

I’m worried this is a wise purchase.  While not quite yet in maintenance mode, new content is very sparse.  Still this could be good for the game if enough people go for it.  A sudden influx of cash might infuse some more life into the game, assuming it’s not funneled into STO or Neverwinter.

What person would buy a lifetime sub to a game that is in death rattles?

This game had so much potential that Cryptic has squandered beyond belief.

@JayBezzOfficial What the hell do you know about adulthood? You were perma-banned from Champions Online for constantly throwing tantrums directly at forum-posting developers because they didn’t follow your orders to the letter on a power set revamp, then admitting that the entire time, you were fundraising for City of Titans before MWM’s Kickstarter.
@breetoplay, I’m about to make an unusual request: Lock or aggressively moderate comments on CO stories. There’s a faction of commenters out there who would gladly sink to any depth, including bald-faced lies (@peregrine_falcon, I’m looking at you), to attack the CO player community. Studios and publishers are fair game for criticism, and they should be, but if player communities can be attacked like this, we’re better off not having comments at all.
Until then, it’s Talk Shit, Get Hit. We have a hard enough time standing up to Cryptic. The last thing we need is you little pissants trying to stab us in the back to get revenge on Jack Emmert, or deluding yourselves into thinking that cutting off our head will make Valiance and City of Titans somehow spring forth like a software development hydra.

JayBezzOfficial Sorenthaz ManastuUtakata Durenas  I got the point after the dozen other replies spamming my inbox, but thanks for showing up late to the party as your comment has clearly added to the discussion and has showed the error of my naive thinking. Thanks Mr. O’reilly.
