Istaria releases a summer quality-of-life update

Istaria (formerly Horizons) is attempting to make good on its former promise of shoring up the game this year, as it’s just released a summer update with a slew of small but important bug fixes and changes. Of particular note are improvements to resource nodes on the Abandoned Isle, new tier 4 and 5 crafting boons, and fixes to bird tweets.

“While these sorts of updates are not as exciting as new content, they are important and why the developers have committed a block of time for this work,” the team posted. “The next set of updates and fixes are just around the corner, and the devs are already moving forward with the next portion of work, so stay tuned!”

PaganRites Denngar I remember reading that as a kid and thinking something was weird, but I just reread it and did my homework. It relies too much on David Allen’s POV, and Dixon only adds a few lines here or there. Reading between the lines (and seeing what happened to Allen during Alganon), I feel like DA wasn’t totally innocent, but certainly ignorant of the business side of things. I’m sure he can make a great game given the opportunity, but he’s been in the position of power two times before somehow, someone took control of his baby and run it aground. If it happened once, I might buy it, but twice?

Denngar All I remember is the unbelievable drama surrounding the game.  The Horizons debacle makes Brad mcQuaid look like an angel.

From their main page …

“There’s only one world where you can play as a dragon. Are you ready to soar over the mountains of Dralnok?”
Wow, a MMO that allows you to actually fly in it.  Who would have thought. /strokes chin with hand, pondering

Honestly, when I played this game, I didn’t give s crap about the dragons. The construction, player economy, all gear being player made (which they eventually reversed -_- ), unlocking new races as a whole server, GMs who came to RP events… despite what people say, Horizons really was one of the last “real” MMOs before all this instancing stuff. Just a shame the combat was so dull.

ProfessionalNoob Phaserlight CastagereShaikura I think you can play a dragon (or any non-human) for 9.99/month but you cannot own property. Not 100% on that, though.

Phaserlight CastagereShaikura While this is true, the draw is to play a dragon and therefore 15 a month.

CastagereShaikura The monthly fee is optional on this one.  Create one human character and play for free forever.

Was a fun game but here’s my problem. I can’t bring myself to pay the same monthly fee for these old game’s when there are better new game’s. It is the same for Anarchy Online which was my first mmo back in 2000. It just seems 15 a month’s a bit to much to ask for a dated looking game with dated gameplay too.

Jack Pipsam Playing a dragon was really fun.
