WildStar F2P removes region locks

Buried amid all of the hubbub of WildStar’s free-to-play launch is the news that the game is no longer region-locked (although it still does not support cross-region play). Players can now select either the North American or European servers from the launcher regardless of where they live or what code is associated with that account.

“Characters / items / etc. will not communicate between regions, but you are free to play on either EU or NA no matter where you are from,” former CM Chilla explained on the forums. “You just need to change the region by clicking the cog on the launcher and swapping it.”

Massively OP has personally tested this and can attest that it does indeed work.

Narayan Bluetouchpaper I’m in the UK as well. The choice is terrible server lag or terrible serve lag. Just had a quick look and no other mmo has this problem.
They went free to play and forgot to buy a couple more servers. Try again in a month or so when everybody left disappointed again like they did the first time.

I am tempted to give this game another try now.. perhaps this weekend as I need a bit of a rest from Elite Dangerous :)

Ive been playing off and on since Beta, with my most recent sub back around June. Tried to login last night and check things out…2,201 in queue with an estimated 1 hour and 19 minute wait time.
I was informed that I could create a character on another server to reduce queue time. There are only 2 servers, jackasses.

But are they blocking a certain country?

Bluetouchpaper Perhaps you’re one of the few lucky ones that isn’t affected. The are constantly bringing the servers down for maintenance (like just now for example), because even they acknowledge vast array of issues. See for yourself – constant technical updates: https://twitter.com/wildstarops (for example the recent “Issues with EU servers such as DCs/character login issues are being investigated currently.”). I myself am affected half of the time.

TronSheridan  I am not getting any problem logging in to the game but maybe that is because I brought the game in the summer when it was on sale cheaply and also I play on the EU pvp server . ( I don’t subscribe but perhaps actually buying the game gives a preferred status )

SamVenice  Perhaps your should check with your internet service provider because in the UK with my provider I am getting no lag at all .

So now you can choose between lagging in your our region OR lagging in the other one even more.
The only sense I can spot in this move, is to bait people to roll characters “in the other region” to avoid peak times in their own, and charge them for server transfers afterwards.

wyliefox that kind of takes the shine of it a little but I still see it as a positve step.  Now about the LAG! :p
