SWTOR server is hit by a rollback

Does your Star Wars: The Old Republic character drown his or her sorrows in the local cantina? If you’re a player on the Harbinger server, you might want to start.

BioWare confirmed today that the server was hit by an unexpected rollback that affected some of Harbinger’s population: “Before the server was brought down, we confirmed that some players did experience a rollback. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to restore the progress that was lost during that time period. We are looking into procedures to avoid this from happening in the future.”

On the forum thread, players reported several hours of progress lost. The studio apologized for the rollback.

Damonvile Gylnne Kittyn unless those were the only 5 hours you can play that month. There’s also a difference between price and value.

quixadhal They likely know, but have to run it through 50 thousand layers of management before they send it to marketing to sell it as a feature. “SURPRISE ROLLBACKS! NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU WILL BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO REPLAY STALE CONTENT ALL OVER AGAIN!”

Then in 5.0 the feature will update to affect all characters in your legacy.

quixadhal Of course they’re not gonna reveal the true cause. They are still a company like any other with a rep to protect!

How can you not know what caused a database rollback?  A database rollback on an MMO generally doesn’t happen without a human making the decision that some data corruption is present AND can’t be corrected programatically.

If your server can be “hit by an unexpected rollback”, your server design is utter rubbish.

Honestly, they need to take Harbinger out back and put it out of it’s misery. That server has had issues for as long as I can remember.

Well that sucks.  I am not going to apologize for BW, that’s their job.  However, I will point out in any tech related thing, there’s always a failure that can lose data.
