Battle Bards Episode 71: Ragnarok Online 2

11

Let’s get this out of the way up front: No, Ragnarok Online 2 isn’t the type of game that you’d think would have a terrific soundtrack, and yes, it totally has a terrific soundtrack. On this episode, the Battle Bards skip through renowned Japanese composer Yoko Kanno’s score, picking out their favorite tracks from this fantasy MMO. Will they convince you that this is a hidden gem? Listen and see!

Battle Bards is a bi-weekly podcast that alternates between examining a single MMO’s soundtrack and exploring music tracks revolving around a theme. MOP’s Justin Olivetti co-hosts with bloggers Steff and Syl. The cast is available on iTunes, Stitcher, and Player.FM.

We’ve got Episode 71: Ragnarok Online 2 for you after the break!

Here we go with the mindless pander speech as if I was attacking your
right to play whatever you want. This has nothing to do with the
players. Play whatever you want. I don’t care and never said I did. This
entire comment thread is about anime shit appropriating my cultural
heritage. Ragnarok is a Norse mythical concept where the Viking Gods
square off with the chaotic primal forces that seek to destroy Midgard.
Nothing about that screams stupid anime bitches with absurdly pointed
chins and giant bug eyes. Developing a game in Korea and calling it
Ragnarok is false advertising at best and an insult to those of us who
still follow the old ways of our Nordic ancestors.

I spent very little time in RO2, but hundreds of hours in RO1 which that music really sticks with you. If RO2’s music is similar, I imagine it can really be enjoyable.
Tree of Saviour is shaping up to be on the same tier as RO1 (supposed to be ex-RO1 developers in charge).

There’s eight hours of what their international beta contained at some point. It is crazy and varied and awesome.
