With a title like The Black Death, you just know the game is going to be about survival. The real question is, can MassivelyOP’s MJ actually do that? Can she hold on to her life? Since this new title just went into early access, MJ is poking in to put that question to the test. Join us live at 7:00 p.m. to see just how long she manages to stay alive. The death counter might eat well tonight!

Sorenthaz Robert80 Leontes Silverlock  That is true, but partially mitigated via the inheritance system if you can play long enough to unlock some skills.
When you roll a new character, the old one is gone, but you keep at least most of any skills you unlocked (or so it seems.)  The problem with that right now is that you get about to level 1-2 and the server says ‘I see you have been playing for more than 10 minutes, goodbye.’

Robert80 Sorenthaz Leontes Silverlock That and last I heard experience doesn’t persist between logins.  So that’s an issue that needs to get fixed or else people lose all progress if they don’t skill up stuff.

Sorenthaz Robert80 Leontes Silverlock  Yeah, first thing they need to do though is work on server connection and stability enough to make the game a little more playable for testing.

Robert80 Sorenthaz Leontes Silverlock Yeah, it’s kind of similar in my book to how I’m looking at Tree of Life.  In ToL you can only do so much on your own because ultimately the skill point system only lets you master like 8 different skills and that’s if you don’t try to mix-match and dabble in more than 8 skills (so if you want you can be a Jack of All Trades but unless you min/max the hell out of the system it probably won’t get you everything).  So it forces a reliance on others, even if it’s simply trading with a guild to get goods or paying experienced carpenters to give you construction kits for building your own little solo settlement.
ToL still has a long way to go as well imo, and it’ll be fun for different reasons ultimately, but like The Black Death it’s one of those indie sandboxes that seems really promising and enjoyable for different reasons.
Really can’t wait to try out the Hunter profession in Black Death, for instance.

Sorenthaz Leontes Silverlock  Yeah, I can see where a community group would be important here, much like in Life is Feudal with the limit on what you can do.
I also think it does have some potential, and does a few interesting things.  There’s a ton of work yet to be done, but it could be a fun diversion to play every now and then with a group of people.

MJ Guthrie Fenryr dragonherderx  Glad you got in.  The server issues are troubling, but the gameplay isn’t too terrible for an early alpha build.

Leontes Sorenthaz Silverlock Because it does have a strong amount of potential imo.  It’s a survival sandbox that takes a different approach to things, and emphasizes roleplaying heavily due to the way professions work.   So it attracts a lot of different crowds, and assuming server hosting becomes a thing it’ll probably be like ARK where there’s a lot of different pocket communities that form around it.

@Fenryr You may not have intended to sparkle a debate… but sparkle a debate you did! No backing out now! Now man up and face the Glitter!

Fenryr Leontes I guess I have nothing more to say than what’s already been said.
