I’m a big supporter of walking away from MMORPGs when they don’t work for you, especially at launch — but I always stay open to going back again. My favorite MMORPGs are those I left and returned to, after they’d built themselves out and after I’d gained more experience with what I wanted and appreciation for what the game did right. I feel like I write about those “return success stories” all the time.
But… I have also returned to MMORPGs I thought I loved only to realize they don’t work for me anymore, either because I’ve changed too much, or they’ve changed too much, or maybe they haven’t changed at all.
How about you? When has going back to an MMO gone really wrong for you?
Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
