Hearthstone retires ‘Heroes of Warcraft’ subtitle

Blizzard appears to be tinkering with its branding: Redditors noticed over the weekend that Hearthstone’s official site has lost the “Heroes of Warcraft” subtitle that’s been appended to the game’s name since the beginning. Indeed, even the mods of the Hearthstone subreddit confirmed that Blizzard had asked them to change the fan sub’s logo to the updated, Warcraft-less one as well.

It won’t be the first time this fall that Blizzard has plotted rebranding; back in September, the company announced it plans to “[transition] away from using the Battle.net name for [its] gaming service and the functionality connected to it.” Bnet will simply be known as Blizzard tech in the future.

You can check out the old and new versions below. Got any theories as to what they’re up to — a move away from the word Warcraft, a move away from the lore itself, or just minimalism at work?
