SMITE adds Fafnir-flavored PvE holiday challenge

If SMITE were in charge of the reindeer games, they’d probably look something like the new PvE arena, Fafnir’s Winter Wonderland. There, players will pit themselves against 15 all-new encounters in round after round of boss fights. Instead of Rudolf, however, groups will face off against a red-nosed Festive Ratatoskr. Also on the roster are Snowman Geb, Slay Bells Chiron, and all the other new holiday skins. Players can purchase chests for a chance at these same skins; Hi-Rez will donate $1 from the sale of every holiday chest roll to the charity Child’s Play.

Fafnir’s arena is set up a bit differently than Xing Tian’s Mountain. Winter Wonderland will have two different difficulty tiers as well as well as easy and hard modes. All players will have to complete rounds 1-15 on Tier 1, Easy Mode before unlocking Hard Mode. On round 16 (on Easy Mode, or from round one on Hard Mode) the difficulty increases to Tier 2, which adds extra elements — and challenge — to the fight. Players earn achievement points and other rewards for participating. There will also be separate leader boards for Easy and Hard Modes. Get a glimpse of the action in the trailer below. And tune into OPTV tonight at 9:00 p.m. EST to see the whole thing in action!

In other news, the The 2016 SMITE Super Regionals have concluded, and the six teams that will be heading to the SMITE World Championship at Hi-Rez Expo (HRX) in January 2017 are:

  • EU Regional Champion: NRG Esports
  • EU Runner Up: Obey Alliance
  • NA Regional Champion: Team Eager
  • NA Runner Up: SoaR Gaming
  • Wildcard 1: Team Allegiance (NA)
  • Wildcard 2: Luminosity (NA)
