Overwatch is overhauling Mercy’s Resurrect to fix counterintuitive mechanics

Heroes do actually die, but...

Blizzard’s latest Overwatch dev video suggests big changes for everybody’s favorite pocket healer Mercy. For starters, her ultimate — Resurrect — will move down to the common tier and be replaced by a sweet new Valkyrie flying move that befits her winged outfit. The downside is that her rez will now be a single-target skill with a long cooldown and small radius.

Blizz’s Jeff Kaplan says the goal is to improve the Mercy play experience and fix the counterintuitive problem of Mercy’s needing to run and hide when her ult is up until everyone dies and can be resurrected — instead of, you know, actually playing and healing.

The Overwatch player who resides in my own house is a big Mercy fan and expressed shock over the changes, and the 5000-comment Reddit thread seems equally torn over whether to consider the changes an overall buff or nerf.

Patch notes are live now if you want to take a look at the full run-down of her skill changes; the dev vlog is down below.
