Black Desert banned 647 cheaters over the last month, mostly fish botters, which is a thing

Thinking about cheating in Black Desert? Probably not; cheaters are hiding out in the bowels of the internet trading hacks with the other script kiddies. Our readers, then, will surely care that Kakao is apparently in the midst of another crackdown, as it’s announced it’s banned 647 cheaters over the last month.

Targeting specifically “the use of nefarious software that automates gameplay and gives people unfair advantages,” the company says, it is “following up the ban wave from December 13th with an additional wave of 647 accounts. As before, this wave primarily consists of fish bots, although other bots are also included.”

Fish botting just makes the whole thing sadder. “Hey so why’d you get banned from BDO?” “Oh, I was fish botting, and I wasn’t even good enough to get away with it.”

“We don’t take such permanent actions lightly, so our investigation has been extremely thorough in order to eliminate false positives and once again we can be fully confident in the accuracy of the bans we have applied, therefore appeals will not be considered.”

Ouch.

Fish botting makes a lot of sense if you’re after Relic Shards. You can AFK fish normally, but the bot will auto-destroy stuff you don’t need/want to make sure you come back to an inventory full of Shards, that sell for mad amounts of silver. Normal AFK fishing can net you a few million silver if you’re lucky, botting can easily earn you 10x as much, or more.

Getting banned for fish botting in a game that LITERALLY HAS AN AFK FISHING SYSTEM is beyond preposterous.

I mean, you probably need to step back and take a look at your life at that point.

Fish botting. Because AFK fishing just isn’t edgy enough.

Oddly enough, it’s been fishing bots that I’ve seen in MMO’s more than any other type. You would think after 20 years, developers would find a way to make it a little less boring, but I guess it’s easier to just ban people who try to circumvent their lack of creativity than actually make it an enjoyable experience.

Could be worse, they could have been arrested for cheating. /facepalm

…647 shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be 647. 648 shalt thou not count, neither count thou 646, excepting that thou then proceed to 647. 649 is right out. Once the number 647, being the 647th number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Banhammer towards thy foe, who being naughty in Our sight, shall snuff it. o.O

PS: Oddly too, 647 is also a prime number. O.o

Fish botting just makes the whole thing sadder.

This is the kind of sentence that I understand 100% of, but I am also cognizant of the reality that people only a very few years older than me would understand 0% of.

I am super glad they are getting these bots finally but I would much rather have a system for gear that was engaging and enjoyable. I don’t enjoy the failstack or buy outright system. I really think this game would be much bigger here in the west than it already is if they’d address their marketplace and gear upgrading system.

Yep. On the 13th they got one bot type but missed the other. With this they got the other main fish bot that also had some other functionality to it. Hopefully they just keep hacking away at them and taking them out.

While banning for fish botting might seem silly in some games, in BDO fishing is a serious source of income. Relic Shards, a fishing drop, are worth a lot of value because they combine into boss scrolls that when defeated drop memory fragments. Memory fragments are used to repair end game gear. This means making a bot to actively fish up more would be a pretty big advantage over those who have to use the in game Auto fish timer (which by default is 3 minutes).

They’re also updating a system change with the marketplace in KR in today’s patch over there to help combat market bots as well by getting rid of an old rule that would make you lose the bid to others.
