ARK Park launches on March 22

Thanks, great.

There are no doubt people who play ARK: Survival Evolved primarily because it provides a robust environment to play a survival game. There are also no doubt players who play the game chiefly because it means getting to ride and interact with dinosaurs. Members of the latter group will get another option in that category on March 22nd, when ARK Park releases for all virtual reality players who want to interact with some dinosaurs.

Of course, the game was originally planned to launch back in December of last year, with fans becoming painfully aware that the game was not going to hit its launch date before the delay was actually announced. But it’s going to be here in just a bit over a month, so eager players can hope that the delay was worth it. The launched game will be available in both a standard and deluxe edition, with the latter including additional outfits and an exclusive dinosaur mount.

No thanks. Already plenty of garbage wave shooters and amusement park games.

you of all people know this raises the graphic bar for VR games quite a bit! That alone is significant.

I’m not a big fan of selling graphics tests to customers, either.

What would be far more compelling would be actual ARK in actual VR than just aiming low and copying what everyone else has already done to death.

Btw, “all 3 platforms” means Rift, Vive, and PSVR. People have been talking about the need for a “killer app” for VR or a game that is a must-play. If it holds up to this graphic quality, we are awfully close to that kind of a thing. This looks beyond spectacular for a native VR game. I think I will finally pony up and get my PC visor, simply to play this game – that’s kind of how it works with hardware upgrades in gaming, innit? :) You build the rig to play the game you desire.

I’d think you of all people would have had the visor by now. Do we need to crowdfund you?

I’m a big GearVR fan, which is a partnership between Oculus and Samsung, and uses the Oculus store and most of its software underpinnings. I’ve held out on the PC visors simply due to cost and lack of that “killer app”. This might be it for me. Gear VR is surprisingly good for what it is, unless you’re expecting a 23rd century Holodeck, which some people apparently are, but that’s quite unrealistic.

You are most welcome to crowdfund my tab at happy hour after work today :)

edit: I have of course tried out the PC and PlayStation visors. I’m leaning towards the Vive at this time. But, they are all making wireless models that will use WiGig tech for fast stream with super-low latency, so I should probably wait just a LITTLE longer… sigh…

Got a Windows Mixed Reality headset on the way, hope it works there too.
