WRUP: Offending the God of Rabbits has worked out pretty much fine edition

114

So as you know, last week we managed to direly offend the God of Rabbits, which is remarkable partly insofar as I had expected us to offend more deities. This is actually better than we could have hoped for. Still, the rabbit god was very mad, and he wrought a mighty curse upon us.

Except, well… it was a curse for rabbits. So, for example, the curse to have predators never fail to see you when you’re still? That part was really kind of a wash, my cats saw me then anyway. I’m not sure if the part of the curse wherein I will never enjoy the taste of clover is even working or not. And since I don’t live in a burrow, having a damp burrow doesn’t appear to have actually happened.

In short, offending the God of Rabbits has worked out pretty much fine. Let us know how any deific curses you’re working through are going in this week’s What Are You Playing, or just let us know what you’re up to for the weekend.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go is happening as usual. It’s nice since it’s brought back a few lapsed friends. I also have a console gaming party on Saturday, so that probably means at least Smash Bros and possibly Overcooked (and more).

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Honestly I’ve been dealing with trolls and abuse far into the night every night this week and I really just need a break from how ugly gaming is. My Saturday is taken up by a party anyway. I did promise my kid I’d play Trove and we’d go to Geode, so I’ll probably do that if I do anything. Trion gets my money right now.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’ve got my usual stuff in Final Fantasy XIV, a little pre-expansion prep in World of Warcraft, and the realization that I could unlock a bunch of extra classes in Granblue Fantasy which I thought would not be available until later. (Is my face ever red.) Also, there are two new PS4 games sitting in my television room. Tons of stuff to do.

Patron Pierre: I’m upgrading my gaming PC with a new i7 8700K CPU, an M.2 SSD drive and an ASUS GTX 1080 Ti OC graphic card, so basically building a new PC from scratch, as I will only keep the tower and the power supply from the previous one. I love building a new PC: this satisfaction feeling when you push the power on button and everything lights on as expected. I must say assembling a PC these days is extremely simple, the most complex part being the huge CPU fan (I bought a Noctua DH15 for those who are into it) but even this part is not so difficult if you’re careful and patient enough. Then, if I’m fast enough reinstalling the OS and all the softwares (that’s the longest most boring part of the process to be honest), I’ll go back playing State of Decay 2 and Destiny 2. No MMO for me this weekend, except if you consider Destiny 2 a MMO, which is almost the case for me. I’m with a great clan; we often play together and I must admit I’ve grouped for IG activities more often in Destiny 2 than in any other MMO I played recently. Enjoy your gaming weekend, dear MOP readers!

Your turn!

Got one hell of a nostalgia buzz off of reading this article! I wonder if El-ahrairah reads MoP?

Anyway, trying to decide if I want to play BfA, while studying and playing Astroneer.

I’ll be playing Warframe when I can get my little brother away from Fortnite long enough to steal back my console. Otherwise, I’ll be sitting next to my brother playing Onmyoji while he plays Fortnite. Apparently, Inuyasha is coming to Onmyoji and I am intrigued.

Maybe some Final Fantasy XIV too.

Mostly GW2 for mmo’s. I love how good the player avatars look and I enjoy the combat. Since there’s no sub I don’t ever feel obligated to play it, and it’s a game with a low ramp-up time. I can leave it for weeks, months even, and after returning I’m back in the saddle in about five minutes.

Against my better judgement I just bought 60 days of swtor game time. Despite its flaws it is a game I frequently feel nostalgic about, and I do kind of miss Galactic Starfighters.

Also playing Civilization 6 again, this time as Tamar and the Georgians. The protectorate war option with that faction has been interesting to say the least. In any event there is something extremely compelling about a game that covers the entirety of human history, and one of the few game series I can think of that is educational and provides value over and above entertainment.

My time with Guild Wars has made me realize I’d rather play a maintenance-mode game that I enjoy than an active one I don’t, so I dumped Secret World Legends again and went back to TSW. I just think of it now as a single player game with a definite ending. I’ve always been good at deciding my own concluding point for fictional universes: Return of the Jedi, ALIENS, Star Trek IV, and now Tokyo for TSW.

Speaking of Trek, I guess STO is now my main game since it’s the only one I play that’s still seeing active development. It has its warts, but it’s still a lot of fun and the best space game option for me. I play that during the day, sprinkle some GW questing here and there, and save TSW for a nightcap.

Thanks Bree & Co. for dealing with all that mess. Have a nice weekend everybody (or the tail end of it at least, I’m late posting today heh).

How did you manage to log back in to the original Secret World, Hirku? I’d love to do that, but I’ve never been able to do it.

Glad your gaming is good, my friend,

Be well!

You can log in to your Funcom account at https://register.thesecretworld.com/account and download the installer from there. Right below the button there’s a link for a LocalConfig xml file, I think that’s related to a bug where a TSW installation would auto-update to SWL. I never had that problem and so didn’t use it.

If you end up installing maybe we’ll cross paths, just look for the other player, har har har…

As my Grandad used to exclaim, “Good Lord thump a duck!!!”

What a frickin’ week. …

Even my usual refuge from all the socio-political madness, Massively Overpowered, caught fire unexpectedly.

While page hits are good for the site (I hope), you could eventually see the dumpster fire it all became from the surface of Mars, without even squinting.

Yeesh. Where are we to find our solace now?

Gaming helps. Not much new this week, unfortunately. Star Trek Online, as ever, and a lot of No Man’s Sky.

I did find one fun little espionage game called Counterspy on the PlayStation Store for cheap, at about $6 US.

If you’re at all curious, and you own a PS4, check it out before the price jumps back up to “probably too much for what it is”. The sale ends July 17th, so look quick, my friends!

That’s all I’ve got. Thanks for being here, Massively regulars. Take care of yourselves, and each other — in the end, we’re all we’ve got, so hold on tight! Things are definitely getting weird out there.

Cheers,

For some reason, I first read your comment literally, as in, “I also have the fingers of a chicken!”.

ayyyy lmao.

in canada chicken tenders are usually called chicken fingers. there’s a bit more to the distinction than that but it’s quite common to refer to the whole lot that way.

Reader

Heh, yeah in US elementary school we had chicken fingers in the school lunches. Beef fingers, too…lot of mutant animals out there.

Patron Pierre, sounds like you are going to be set. That rig will run anything at max settings. Grats!

So, setting aside the idiocy of the interwaves and keeping with today’s theme, I think I found a perfect illustration of why I maintain BnS as my main game.

Ever hear of a band called Babymetal? Ah, well, they are this incredible blend of hardcore metal and J-pop. Yes, an anathema to both metal purist, and pop fanatics. But it works.

The juxtaposition of so cute it gives you cavities against harsh, abrasive, metal riffs that make you want to break stuff is great fun. A perfect analogy for BnS, IMO. LOL!

So, I’ll leave this little vid for your perusal. You might not like metal or J-Pop but the combo might make smile and maybe even wonder if you should be smiling.

Gaming this week is BnS and Warframe. I may be a full-on Warframe convert soon. Lol. I’m having fun.

Ya know I just got into to this Babymetal thing recently. Now I am on to LadyBaby and Band-Maid as well. I love the face Su makes during the beat change at 40 sec – the look that says “Shit just got real”

Reader
rafael12104

Lol. Yes. Just found out about it this week and it is jarring, entertaining and fun. Seriously, during my first view I was confused, but afterwards delighted.

Su has amazing stage presence. She is a s good as it gets commanding the stage. She can barely speak English and she has her audience totally enthralled by the end of the show.

That song title “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” basically = “Bullying is absolutely no good.” IMO it’s very metal to stand against bullying. Especially when children in Japan who are at all different or even just too opinionated get viciously bullied while adults do very little about it. There’s a great pressure for conformity. Fans of metal bands and other subculture scenes view the booming live show scene as a chance not only to belong, but also to express their individuality, and they’ll travel the length of the country for a chance to go see their favorites. So this song is definitely BABYMETAL telling those people, “We see you, and we are willing to fight for you and have your back.”

Reader
rafael12104

Yes indeed! Babymetal comes out and says that very thing during their concerts that include a video scroll effect. Love that.

And here is my attempt at combining Babymetal and Blade & Soul. Lol!

this week i played sea of thieves, star citizen and divinity original sin 2.

i had to give up the red prince in dos2 as we brougth sahe into the group. so i’m down to one character control, but luckily noth sent me plenty of cash to buy all the spell books i need to more fully flesh out my tool kit

jose adn creub finally joined us in sea of thieves, and then caused what basically amounts the literally worst thing i’ve ever done as a gamer. which basically we went out to gank some enemy crews and th efirst shio we came across immidiately surrendered and gave us his loot and we still sank him. so terrible and i feel so bad lol.

and in star citizen… well check out the star citizen articles this week for what i did there! :D

here’s a music video for my band’s song juicero. for when you just need fresh juice with out all the fuss :D

i watched it on twitter and reddit. was pretty amusing spotting obvious “russian bots” that had no prior interest in gaming having strong opinions about spending money on gw2.

noticed alot in some of the reddit threads. but it was apparent that none of the usual suspects wanted to touch it with a ten foot poll.

shame that trolls fixated on taking the opportunty to be assholes here on massively. feel bad for bree for having to spend the time moderating it speaking as someone with mod experience. better than the rest of the pack reporting by bree but that’s not saying much when literally everyone else is pushing straight up fake news narrative with gross misrepresntations and intentionally misleading presentations of facts (as well as deception by ommission in several cases).

was odd getting asked on this site (on an sc article) if i knew gaming wasnt “real” because i take my hoby seriously. was poised to ask him if he knows internet flame wars aren’t real and why he’d be surprised that people talk about games on a gaming site. clearly these people aren’t gamers and have no interest in games beyond the drama it can provide them. and i’ve come to the conclusion that many of the big gaming drama “scandals’ of the current decade are entirely attributeable to people who have zero interest in games and are here to pick on nerds and fuck some shit up for the lulz.

Well said, dk. I tend to agree with your conclusions. And yeah, I feel bad for Bree that she had to endure the shitstorm, but I’m also so proud of her and MOP that she tried hard (even when it was all pissing her off) to keep the reporting on-point and as ethical as it could be made.

For a website which explicitly says, “We are not journalists” Massively did a better job of fighting the good fight amidst this mess than a lot of the so-called “news sources” which are only to happy to wear the journalist hat when it suits them.

To your other major point — you and I (and many others) have been on Massively since “the before times”, deekay, and it was really obvious fairly quickly how many readers (*cough*) who never, ever posted a single word here before suddenly appeared solely to inflame the debate.

Sure, some percentage were probably long-time silent lurkers suddenly moved to post, but after a while, the math just didn’t work trying to take that as the entire explanation.

The numbers got as hinky as a mob casino, you know what I’m sayin’? :-)

Cheers,

in any case i had bigger things to worry about adn engage my time with than arguing with crazy forum people… like putting up patio latterns for my guild meet up in 2 weeks! :D

i watched a good portion of it enough to have an informed opinion about both the story adn the drama surrounding it. i commented a couple comments on various articles but probably got lost in the shitshow. but other wise one of my buddies who is due here in 2 weeks had a bit of a crises where in he needed some bros to let him cry on their shoulders and tell him he’s not insane (not related to guild or meetup stuff thankfully) so i was busy with that to the point i even played some hearthstone (i usually just watch them through the client) to lift his spirits. lol. he knew it too and exploited every minute of it! :D teh fucker :D

the founders of the guild met on a gaming forum for a game we played maybe a month and enjoying chewing the fat with each other offtopic more. decided to play rift together and had a good time. so we kind of started off that way really.

we also hated how the first guild we merged with expected people to not hang out if they stopped playing w/e game was being played. so we made it like a whole thing to make sure people knew they didn’t have to be playing the big game to hang out. and it’s worked fairly well for us and even more so thanks to discord (which we really only use for text chat out side of the occasional cam group call).

there are people that mostly only come around when there’s a game of mutual interst mind you, but they know the door is always open and we often keep in contact on facebook and such.

edit: totally misread your comment lol. yeah usually end up playing w/e people are interested in normally but with hs i have been resisting playing ith with this guy for the past 2-3 years but i totally watch them play so… XD i don’t mind. i need to unlock the decks so i can play taven brawl with them now and then on our friday night adventures XD

Well the heat killed my PS4 so no FFXIV for now. But Aside from waiting FOR A GODDAMN WORLD QUEST TO POP FOR THE 23 NIGHTFALLEN REP I NEED TO BE DONE WITH LEGION i’ve been really into Octopath Traveller. Its the JRPG FFXV should have been. Its like ff4-6, bravely default and the Saga series had a baby. Not a great world ending ancient evil but 8 adventures right out of D&D through a FF6 lens going on adventures in a fantasy world. Its easily the best home console rpg i’ve played since at least like 2011. Would totally recommend it.

I’m playing Final fantasy XIV. I haven’t played in over three years and never did complete the ARR storyline (although I did level one job to 50) so I’ve got a lot to catch up on. What got me to check it out again was the 50% off deal they had going this week. I picked up Heavensward and Stormblood for $20 total so not a bad deal. It’s been difficult getting back into the game though, theee years is a long time and I was completely lost for the first hour or two but I’m starting to figure things out. However now that things are going a little smoother I’m having a lot of fun.
