Red Dead Redemption 2 may be heading to PC in 2019

If your platform of choice is PC, you may be wondering when you will be able to redeem all of your red deads in Red Dead Redemption 2. We still don’t have an official announcement of when or even if it’s happening, but European retailer MediaMarkt has officially listed the game as arriving on PC in 2019.

Obviously, retailer listings are nothing absolute, but MediaMarkt is well-known as a major retailer in the region, and the speculation that the title will come to PC is fueled by previous hints that work was being done on the game’s PC incarnation. Of course, “December 31st, 2019” is quite a ways away, but it seems to indicate that the game will possibly be ported sometime in 2019. Just… don’t bet the farm on that.

Meanwhile, European retailers are just going to be happy when the game comes out in the hopes that it will revitalize a very weak physical market at the moment, so there’s that.

I have no doubt RDR2 will come to PC. For me, it’s a question of “when”. Of how long after the release of the console version, will it finally come to PC? 18 months after GTA 5 released for the 360/PS3, it finally came to PC. That was still 6-7 months after it released on the X1/PS4.

RockStar is unlikely to be able to deal with the issues that a PC port brings – this GTAO video is exhibit A: everyone has banded together to destroy a modder, basically he is close to God Mode. The hacking/duping/modding/glitching in GTAO on PC is pervasive – it can be hilarious but it creates huge issues, and they’re seemingly unable (or unwilling) to fix

It’s interesting because it is certainly possible to fix most of it. It will require moving away from the p2p structure though, which will obviously cost money, but I can’t imagine that letting hackers run rampant is cheap either. So I don’t know. It’s weird.

you do know that modding/hacking/cheating is really common on the console versions and has been long before the pc release right?

I don’t have a link available at the moment, but it’s already been denied by Rockstar and that the listing was in fact a placeholder. Now it might be a placeholder for Red Dead 2 on PC, but since triple A publishers are addicted to their over-hyped reveals, Rockstar/Take Two will likely scream “lies and fake news” at every leak until they reveal the news themselves, proving the leaks were correct all along.

Let’s see what ships for Windows first: RDR2 or the mythical Sunset Overdrive port that only seems to exist in a Korean ratings board database.
