Isn’t it awesome that you can go to a website, pay some money (or Bitcoin, of course this would take Bitcoin), and then have a DDoS attack directed against whoever you choose? Wait, no, awesome isn’t the word for that. Awful. That’s the word I was thinking of. But it will at least be harder after the FBI has seized and taken down 15 DDoS-for-hire sites as part of a criminal investigation.
Criminal complaints have also been filed against three alleged criminals associated with two of these such sites. There’s an obvious motivation to the timing, as the FBI notes that the holiday week is often an active time for those seeking to prevent other people from using online games and services. It’s unlikely to prevent the dedicated trolls and jerk-butts (note: we want to use stronger words here but try to stay family-friendly) but it should at least cut down on some of the malicious actions flying across our favorite series of tubes.
