The Daily Grind: What upcoming MMO do you want to be good, even if it might not be?

Can't wait to see what's next here?

I’m excited about Peria Chronicles. This is not a secret. I’m also excited for Caravan Stories. And yet in both cases these games could be awful, and if they are I will dutifully play them, evaluate them, and say that they aren’t very good. At this point it’s far too early for me to say either way, and there’s every reason to believe that one or both might be awful. But I want them to be good.

Wanting something to be good is something we tend to undervalue; we like to argue that an upcoming movie or game or meal or whatever should be good rather than preparing for the possibility that it might not be. But let’s just leave realism to one side for the day and ask what upcoming MMO do you want to be good while still acknowledging that it might not be. What title would you target for “well, it might be bad, but I want it to be awesome?”

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

– Star Citizen (Pushing technological boundries)
– Pantheon (Old school mechanics/newer tech)
– Ashes of Creation (If fruition can match vision, next big fantasy MMORPG)
– Dual Universe (If Minecraft and Star Citizen had a baby)
– Fractured (What Path of Exile needed to be. What Albion wanted to be. What we still won’t have. A good MMO-ARPG)
– LostArk (Visually stunning, high content, low ambition, high MTX, low customization. If Fractured could look this good, it would be the WoW of ARPG’s)

I find it weird or impossible to answer anything but all of them to this question. Otherwise I would want a game to be bad, which is just weird as a gamer and a fan of MMOs. Alternatively I could reject the idea that any new MMO might not be good, which is just irrational.

Pantheon. It’s currently the only one out there that I can say for sure when it launches I plan to be there.

Camelot Unchained for honorable mention. An all PvP MMO has just lost any place in my gaming desires but I love the hell out of Mark Jacobs and want him and his team to enjoy success. Mark if you decide to stay in this racket after CU and make a Sci-Fi MMORPG that is PvE group based (with even a touch of RvRvR)…I’ll back the crowd funding and gladly pay the subscription!

Minecraft Earth. This could get be the game that gets the generation of Minecraft players to go outside. Time will tell.

Amazons New World. Hopefully, a good experience will be had so MMO’s will be like potato chips and you cannot just make just one.

Camelot Unchained and Star Citizen are the current two that I pin my hopes on and worries.

Peria Chronicles, it is the first MMO in a long time to give me that butterflies of potential feeling… but that is based lareglon the visuals and few videos I have seen the reality could be MUCH different.. I just hope its good as that would make me very happy.

Also not really an MMO per se, but if Star Citizen eneds up being everything they are aiming for then that will be some next level sh** I will be very happy with.

All of them. In fact, they can be good even without being for me. I’d really like some games that swing toward what I’d like… but I’m never going to say that having games that are good for people is bad (excepting those games that try to lure people to be ‘prey’ for their ‘wolves’ because that’s entirely a matter of exploiting people who are ignorant of the reality for whatever reasons… those can just go away due to that exploitive aspect, and the complete lack of care I have for the fun of those who’s fun is wrecking the fun of others.)
