I’m excited about Peria Chronicles. This is not a secret. I’m also excited for Caravan Stories. And yet in both cases these games could be awful, and if they are I will dutifully play them, evaluate them, and say that they aren’t very good. At this point it’s far too early for me to say either way, and there’s every reason to believe that one or both might be awful. But I want them to be good.
Wanting something to be good is something we tend to undervalue; we like to argue that an upcoming movie or game or meal or whatever should be good rather than preparing for the possibility that it might not be. But let’s just leave realism to one side for the day and ask what upcoming MMO do you want to be good while still acknowledging that it might not be. What title would you target for “well, it might be bad, but I want it to be awesome?”
