This is probably not how Blizzard wanted to reveal the latest destination for its hit team shooter Overwatch.
An otherwise innocuous Amazon listing for a Nintendo Switch carrying case lit up the internet yesterday. What was so special about this? Only the fact that the case sported the familiar banana yellow-and-grey Overwatch symbol on it. The listing, which was quickly taken down, featured an officially licensed Nintendo product made by PowerA.
Two years ago in a Reddit AMA, Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan said, “Getting [Overwatch] on the Switch is very challenging for us. But we’re always open minded about exploring possible platforms.”
So is Overwatch heading to Nintendo’s console? It’s not confirmed in the least just yet, but the fact that the carrying case had a September 15th sell date on it is raising speculation in all quarters.
