WRUP: Yes these are all of the good words edition

Yeah, no.

As a long-time professional… write… person… writeranarian? Write-maker. As a professional for whatever my field is called, some people think it is my job to know all the words. This is not correct. The only words you have to know are the good words. All the other words are optional and frankly there to fill up space. With that in mind, it’s time for the big professional WJ (write-jockey) no-no as I tell you all of the good words.

  • Nouns: Butterfly, Apple, Pie, Rod, Masthead, Sword, Staff, Scale, Chair, Box
  • Verbs: Fly, Fart, Console, Matriculate, Expound, Say, Wobble, Glrompf (*)
  • Adverbs: Fatly, Ang Lee-ly (*), Majorly, Appropriately, Sexually, Glrompf (*)
  • Pronouns: They
  • Adjectives: Sticky, Sweet, Cold, Moist, Electrified
  • Glormpfs: Tangent Butter, Angry Muskrat, Angrier Muskrat (*), Goose Goose Goose Goose, Mag-a-pag-bag, Nougat

Note: (*) denotes a Good Word generally frowned upon by writeratrices following Vatican II/NATO agreements.

Those are all the Good Words. Use some Good Words to explain what you’re playing in this week’s What Are You Playing. Or use some other words, if you must.

Bonus question: What’s your favorite large mammal? (“Large” in this case means “bigger than a human being.”)

Andy McAdams: I picked up The Elder Scrolls Online again last weekend and I’m having fun putzing around there. Probably logging in to say hi in Final Fantasy XIV and playing some Minecraft as well.

Favorite large animal… uhhh, clearly not a bear. Let’s go with an elephant. I hadn’t really thought about it before, I’ve not categorized my favorites by size.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Probably just phone games (what, don’t you guys have phones?) as my weekend is booked in the best way. I’ve been playing City of Heroes and Star Wars Galaxies Legends this week, though, and I finally got my Hexed outfit for my Necromancer in Guild Wars 2.

For the bonus, probably blue whales. Everyone should try to see the life-size blue whale replica in the American Museum of Natural History sometime if you ever want to feel extremely tiny. Or maybe horses. Can I say that without being a horse girl? OK, maybe I’m just a horse girl. Okapi are pretty badass too. Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I have had a lucky couple of days in Dauntless, which saw some exotic item blueprints drop, so I’ll be chasing materials to build and upgrade those. I also accidentally screwed myself in Star Citizen and got myself a crimestat of 1, which prevents me from landing in Lorville and trying all the new 3.7 stuff, so it’s just basic mission running for me until that wears. Sad times. I’m also going to level up either my Black Mage or White Mage in FFXIV, I’m just unsure which.

My favorite large mammal is the Clydsedale horse. I was lucky enough to pet one at a state fair once and it was this absolutely monstrous beast with this kind of aura of curiosity and kindness. I was in awe and still am awed by them.
Colin Henry (@ChaosConstant): With any luck, I’ll be playing a game of my own creation by the time the weekend is over. Some friends and I are taking part in a game jam, a challenge to create a game in under 48 hours with a theme that won’t be revealed until the start. Once that’s done, I’ll be farming The Mad King’s Labyrinth in Guild Wars 2. With a zerg, it’s a great, mindless way to make money and grind for xp.

Do kangaroos count as a large mammal? They’re a little taller than an average human being.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Now that I’ve beaten Code Vein it’s mostly just… pawing at new game plus there for alternate endings and waiting for DLC. Also, with a date for FFXIV’s next patch, that’s added incentive to double down and get some Moogle tomestones on alts. Don’t you love it when circumstances align nicely?

My favorite large mammals are bears, because… well, my marriage. (And today is my anniversary, so that’s on my mind.) Second favorite is the mighty orca; third would probably be the impressive rhinoceros, which was my grandfather’s favorite. Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m trying to wrap up the last bits of Vales of Anduin content for Lord of the Rings Online so I can be ready for the expansion. I’m also trying to learn the ins and outs of ArcheAge, although I still feel very lost at this point. Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): I hope to get in some ArcheAge Unchained and Pokemon Go this weekend, around working at the day job and handling family obligations.

As for large mammals, I like cows. Cows rock. I loved the ones we had when I was growing up and the ones that come to greet you along the fence line of the dairy farm across from my mom’s house. Purely by coincidence, they are also my favorite large mammal to eat. Samon Kashani (@thesamkash): ArcheAge Unchained as much as possible but I’ll also play through some of Guild Wars 2 Halloween event. Even if it’s all a repeat, I always enjoy it.

Favorite large animal would be a cow. Milk is great in all forms. Also, cows are delicious. Tyler Edwards: Continuing my Mass Effect: Andromeda replay and maybe some Anthem, though the holiday event seems a bit underwhelming.

Bonus question: Can’t say this is a matter I’ve ever given any thought to, but… maybe elephants? They’re basically giant lawnmower-tanks with tentacle-noses and a surprisingly high degree of intelligence and empathy. That’s pretty cool if you ask me.
