Online tactical CCG Duelyst is officially shutting down in February

There will soon be one less online CCG for people to enjoy as of February with the official closure of Bandai Namco’s Duelyst, which will go dark at 6:00 p.m. EST this coming Thursday, February 27th.

The closure announcement included several alerts such as the end of Diamond purchases and a 99% reduction in Diamond Orb purchase prices for anyone who still happened to have Diamonds in their account. Incidentally, anyone who purchased Diamonds between December 21st, 2019 and January 24th, 2020 can put in a refund request until March 30th.

“Saying goodbye to any game is never easy, and it’s always hardest when you love the game as much as we all love Duelyst,” reads the announcement. “We’re incredibly proud of the effort our developers have put in on Duelyst over the years, and even more proud of the amazing community of friends and gamers that have enjoyed Duelyst. We want to thank all of you for being a part of the Duelyst family, and for making our time working on Duelyst the amazing adventure it has been.”

Wow that’s a coincidence. Never heard of this one before yesterday. It came across my steam feed and looked intresting so I downloaded it. Now I don’t think I’ll even end up trying it.

It kind of feels like this is dying a death as a fad and nobody really cares. So many companies wanted dat hearthstone money but even hearthstone appears to be on the downward swing. Are there any digital card games bar stuff like yugioh duel links on mobile that are thriving?

Magic Arena seems to be thriving. I wouldn’t be surprised that HS is on a downward string because of Magic. As you know – board games, real card games and your figures all seems to be having somewhat of a major resurgence right now.

I wouldnt say its thriving. Actually Im not even sure if it has fully recovered yet from the massive exodus after WotC’s ginormous fuckup with the last standard, which is begining to be all too common as of late

People have been putting up with Wizard’s bullshit since day 1. If you are into the game – there isn’t a substitute no matter how much whiny gnashing people do.

It was a bad set – not playtested enough. *shrug*

Duelyst was nothing like Hearthstone or the other CCGs… it was pretty much a tactics game with a major CCG element. So I wouldn’t lump them in with trying to build a clone for hearthstone money.

I’m always sorry to hear about game closures because it means much more than turning off servers. People lose their livelyhood and assets and may be much more than that.

But, only new of this game because I had to google what a CCG was and it came up in the search. So… that might tell you something right there. Heh. Maybe even something about me.

The coincidence is real. Just today I was cleaning up my youtube subscriptions – and took off my 3 or so Duelyst subs – it made me sad thinking about how much I used to enjoy and play the game.

Great game – if they could have kept a better timeline on mobile I think they might have made it.

One of the coolest card games I’ve played, it’s a shame it never really took off like hearthstone or whatever.

It was a great, thriving game that went straight to hell pretty much instantly when Bandai Namco got its hand on it. RIP.
