Update: The game’s been confirmed now; we’ve updated at the end.
Just in case you thought the battle royale craze was on its way out, Activision has another one for you. According to a piece on Polygon this morning sourced from an apparently accidentally leaked influencer video, Warzone is a new Call of Duty game with a battle royale bent, launching free-to-play this week.
The video claims the game won’t require Call of Duty Modern Warfare, in spite of previous leaks to the contrary. Player count will cap out at 150 with two game modes, multiple new-to-the-franchise and old maps, and a fast-paced gameplay style.
Gamers will recall that just a few weeks ago, Activision was busying itself chasing a different Call of Duty leaker by attempting to subpoena Reddit, though it seems more like this one was just an unfortunate misclick on a video.
The video was taken down, but it’s been mirrored if you’re up for spoilers. Presumably, Activision will be announcing it shortly anyway.
