Fortnite adds a non-combat in-game social space known as Party Royale

No, I don't like it either.

Sure, Fortnite is a battle royale shooter, but once in a while it’s also been a point for some impressive social gatherings. It’s this sort of interaction that Epic Games appears to want to foster with the semi-quiet introduction of Party Royale, a socially focused in-game area that’s less about being top of the kill list and more about just hanging out.

The mode was unveiled last Friday in a tweet featuring a live concert with Diplo, but it’s much more than simply a locale for live shows, as another report describes a color-soaked playground with minigames, screens pumping out videos and music, a pirate ship, a go-kart track, and even just a beachside to hang out in and enjoy the digital scenery.

It would seem that Epic Games has plans for this space, but for now this new Party Royale mode is either the next evolution in making Fortnite into a weird little sandbox or another step away from what it originally was touted as.
