MusicBattle is a text-based MMORPG about making music and doing crimes

When people say that the music industry is pretty cutthroat, we assume that actual throats aren’t getting cut. In the text-based MMORPG world of MusicBattle, cutting throats is literally something that can happen.

This bit of free-to-play gaming describes itself as a “massively multi player online role playing game where music is a passion but crime is your life.” In MusicBattle, the ultimate goal is to create a record label and take over the world by any means necessary, including committing crimes, attacking others, and maybe actually creating records in-between all of the crime committal and attempted murder. Getting stronger involves going to the gym to raise your fledgling rapper’s stats, which should make attacking others or surviving attacks that much easier.

The game was apparently a rather popular bit of MMO gaming, with 40,000 active players at one point before being shut down. After several weeks of development, though, it’s back and ready to fulfill your most bloodthirsty of music stardom power fantasies. Go figure.
