There’s a draft mode in Artifact’s 2.0 relaunch/reboot, and it is a different spin on the concept of building a deck, that much is certain. Players select from a pool of available heroes in a usual draft format, but then the main deck of cards is built automatically based on the heroes both players have wound up with from the draft. The result is a deck that’s ever-changing but can be assembled relatively quickly, which sits well with the game’s lower emphasis on individually complex cards and more on mechanical interactions.
This is in sharp contrast to the original version of Artifact, which focused much more on mechanical density for individual cards and failing so hard that the game required a wholesale reboot/relaunch. (The fact that the game was buy-to-play with no chance to earn any cards through play did nothing to help it here.) Said reboot was announced back in March, so it remains to be seen if the second try is the charm or not.
