The Daily Grind: Which MMO antagonists do you still fondly remember?

For some reason, even in the earlier years of World of Warcraft, my favorite antagonists were never the big villains that were supposedly built up over the course of the expansion. I didn’t really care much about Kel’thuzad or Illidan or even Arthas as a personal enemy. But Arugal, the guy who wanted a whole house full of dogs? Mekgineer Thermaplugg? The almost heartbreaking fight against Keristrasza in the Nexus? Those stick with me pretty resolutely.

Of course, you can never be sure which antagonists will resonate with players. I certainly was supposed to want to beat up Nemesis and the Clockwork King in City of Heroes, and that’s exactly what happened. I definitely connected with Nidhogg, Emet-Selch, and Vauthry as antagonists in Final Fantasy XIV. And we cannot forget the most memorable of all antagonists, of course, the dreaded Lord British in Ultima Online. (He was supposed to be an antagonist, right? Pretty sure I’m right.) So which MMO antagonists do you still fondly remember, whether or not they were supposed to be particularly important?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
