The Daily Grind: How aggressive do you like to be in MMO group content?

Ah yes, teamwork.

It will probably not surprise anyone reading this that I do a fair bit of group content in Final Fantasy XIV, and veterans of the game will probably recognize that there are two distinct sorts of groups you get in anything larger than a dungeon. The first is where you have tanks both hanging back, weapons drawn, not wanting to be the first one to pull as a countdown ticks on and then someone calls another ready check. The other is where you have at least one tank in a footrace with every other tank, and as soon as that tank gets within ranged attack distance of the boss it is pulled, proper preparation be damned.

Obviously, these are two extremes, but we all have a cadence that we enjoy more. Speaking personally, I tend to be all about getting in and getting ready quickly, then slowing up more if it’s clear people are having trouble or getting left behind. Other people like to go faster or slower, depending on personal experience. So what about you, dear readers? How aggressive do you like to be in MMO group content? Would you rather plan ahead, discuss strategies, and be cautious, or do you just blast ahead at full speed?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
