Lord of the Rings Online hedges on new server, rolls out Ill Omens event

Astute Lord of the Rings Online players may have noticed that one promise from last year’s producer’s letter never came to be, which was the launch of a new challenging server type. So whatever happened to that?

Community Manager Jerry Snook addressed this question recently, saying, “That was something we were intending to do in 2020, but the way 2020 actually played out pushed it into the future. Hard to say today what the future holds for the idea; could happen, could happen but be different, could not happen.”

In other LOTRO news, Update 28.4 arrives today in preparation for the start of the annual Ill Omens event tomorrow. This year’s event will run from February 10th through March 7th and has some choice prizes for participants, including reusable buff items and two new cosmetic pets. The reusable item ended up being so powerful, in fact, that SSG is already nerfing it.
