The Daily Grind: What intentionally sub-optimal choices do you make in your MMO?

World Orlando Fontaine Warcraft, as always, is contractually obligated to show up here.

Some people very deliberately do not look up what the ideal ways are to play their character types in MMOs. They never read guides or do anything beyond looking at the in-game descriptions and making their best guesses based on personal experiences. All well and good. But most of us do wind up reading one or two things, or being told one or two things, and we inevitably find out that the best way to play our Guild Wars 2 Thief is with a staff, or our best option in World of Warcraft is to spec our Outlaw Rogue into two different talents, or whatever.

And we then decide to just carefully ignore that knowledge.

Look, I’m not judging, due in no small part to the fact that both of those hypothetical examples are things that I personally do. Just because I know that the alternative would be better doesn’t mean I’m going to actually take said alternative when I have other concerns (aesthetics, play stability, my own personal definitions of a character, etc) that direct me to do things the way I’m already doing them. So what about you, dear readers? What intentionally sub-optimal choices do you make in your MMO?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
