The Daily Grind: Is there usually a moment when an MMO just ‘clicks’ for you?

That looks complicated.

If burnout is one of the worst feelings to have in gaming, then one of the best is what I call “the click.” It’s the feeling and the moment when you finally transition from generally liking a title to being really, really into it. You get it. It clicks with you, and you can’t wait to log in again.

I recently experienced this with New World. This has been a title I’ve played off and on for the past year without really connecting with it. However, literally overnight I finally got the systems, the gameplay loop that I wanted to pursue, and an increased desire to play. Sometimes one has to pursue the click for a while before it happens, but it’s worth it.

What about you? When you’re playing an MMO, is there usually a moment when it just clicks with you? Can you recall the moment – was it the first time logging in or the seventeenth? Was it a particular activity or experience? Or did it gradually happen over a period of time?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
