MassivelyOP’s 2022 Golden Yachties: Most belated MMO apology

MassivelyOP’s not-so-serious end-of-the-year awards continue today with our pick for most belated MMO apology. (We call these silly awards the Golden Yachties in honor of that dank meme about how games bloggers sail around on a golden yacht with all their blogging money. Obviously, our yacht is constructed from rhodium-encrusted moonrock, not mere gold.)

And the winner is…

When Marvel Heroes sunsetted back in 2017, we were all disappointed and even pretty pissed off. Part of the reason was the absolute lack of communication out of Gazillion. Well, to everyone’s shock, in 2022 Gazillion’s Dave Dohrmann resurfaced with a social media apology aimed at developers for the way the studio’s closure was handled. He doesn’t address how the company let down players, nor does he address the many accusations leveled directly at him that seemingly led to the implosion. At least one of the devs took to our comments to tell him to sod right off. “You know what would be a great apology, releasing the source code so we can have a private server,” a reader wrote. Yeah, we’re inclined to agree.
