The Daily Grind: Is there anything in an MMO that makes you irrationally angry?

So a few weeks back, I decided I was tired of flipping back and forth between my Lord of the Rings Online client and my notepad file where I jot down all the stuff I’m looking to buy. I googled to see what people are using in 2023, and instead I bumped into an official forum thread from 2013 with useful plugin links to neat in-game notepad plugins that still work! Yay!

But buried in that thread was a comment I was not expecting. Some LOTRO player was reaaaaaaally mad about requests for an in-game notepad 10 years ago; he basically went off on the poster, telling him that he should use a paper notepad and a pencil and not demand that coders design a plugin. In fact, he called it “perhaps the single laziest thing [he had] ever read on this forum.”

Fam, I make paper journals for fun, but I still want an in-game notepad, and it’s not because I’m lazy; it’s so I can play video game auction hall nerd without tab lag or losing my written paper or having excess stuff on my desk. It just seems like a weird thing to get offended at, but I don’t want to dump on this random dude from a decade ago, so no names or links or anything.

Instead, I really want to talk about the small and obscure and petty things that make the rest of us bizarrely furious enough to go off on a random forum poster. Is there anything in an MMO that makes you irrationally angry?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
