Lord of the Rings Online dev stream expands on last week’s roadmap previews

The release of Lord of the Rings Online’s 2024 roadmap this past week only seemed to fuel more questions than it did supply answers, which is probably why Lead Systems Designer Allan “Orion” Maki hopped onto the most recent dev stream to address specific points of the plan.

Maki elaborated on the upcoming time-released Catacombs of Umbar quest series, confirmed that the new hobby will not be golf but will either feature some sort of discovery or collection system, and that the new 64-bit servers should be coming sooner rather than later. One interesting point is that a new instrument, the hurdy-gurdy, is in the works as part of the corsairs theme.

As for the new legendary server, Maki said that SSG doesn’t have a timeframe on it but that when it arrives, the world will feature a different ruleset and a “special sauce” to keep it interested. And no, it’s not going to be a classic-era server, as the studio doesn’t want to do that.

And as a bonus, SSG released the full 46-track Corsairs of Umbar soundtrack on YouTube:
