The Daily Grind: What’s the hardest MMORPG to return to after a long time away?

When I returned to Lord of the Rings Online several years ago, I’d been away for a very, very long time – so long that my Minstrel was still set up with chainmail from the days when Minnies could trait for medium armor. Needless to say, I had a hard time getting her set back up with light armor – and her virtues are still a disaster to this day, all chosen for a very different character than what I actually had. I haven’t really figured out a good way to fix all that without paying for it or grinding, and I’m very cheap and lazy, so that’s not happening. My real solution was to play other characters, mostly.

Even so, I didn’t think LOTRO was a particularly difficult game to return to; my Minnie is notable because she’s an anomaly, really. I have a much harder time returning to something like Ultima Online, as I know when I do I’ll have to unpack all my characters and banks and try to find a new house to put all my stuff in. It could take days or weeks before I’d actually get to do any more than hunt for a house spot, decorate, organize, and gear up, and knowing all that helps keep me away (and when I did sub, knowing all that helped keep me subbed, too).
