The Daily Grind: Which MMORPG with level scaling handles it worst?

is that a monkey?

Considering the fact that every MMORPG is in a war of content basically forever, I say it makes sense that they would embrace level scaling to some extent. From syncing people to lower levels for quests or specific experiences to just changing the whole world to sync with your level, it’s harder to find a game that doesn’t make use of level scaling to somehow expand its overall content reach.

That being said, the actual execution of much of this scaling can be a bit more… questionable. It’s not that they’re all bad; many games do a very good job, even. But it’s also a reality that many such games will lower your level and deny you access to certain abilities, or scale everything to your difficulty so progression feels less meaningful. Heck, one game even scales based on your gear level instead of softening the gear curve! So which MMORPG with level scaling handles it the worst? Where do you feel the most like you don’t even care about these levels any more?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
