GTA Online players raise ruckus after Rockstar stuffs convenience features behind GTA+ sub

While new things to do in Grand Theft Auto Online are generally meant to be the major focus of an update, players are instead zeroing in on something that not everyone has access to, as Rockstar’s latest patch has added several conveniences to the game… and then locked them behind its GTA+ subscription.

With the latest patch, GTA+ members can use the Vinewood Club in-game phone app to request vehicles, replenish ammo, and claim all outstanding business safe earnings without having to dart around town gathering those goodies. It’s that last one that has raised the ire of players, with many arguing that this feature should be available to all by default, while others have leaped to the conclusion that the online component for the forthcoming GTA VI will be even more of a paywall hellscape.

In tangential GTAO news, former Rockstar developer Joe Rubino said in an interview that the team was working on a “kick-ass” story DLC for GTA V that focused on everyone’s favorite psychopath Trevor, but the success of GTAO saw the project get axed. “[The DLC] was really really good,” Rubino claims, “But when GTA Online came out it was so much of a cash cow and people were loving it so much that it was hard to make an argument that a standalone DLC would outcompete that.”
