Considering the long spans of silence that have earmarked the progress of Crimson Desert, we know it was easy to presume that Pearl Abyss had silently canned what it’s now calling its “open world action-adventure,” no matter what the company said during its investor calls. However, that’s definitely not the case!
First, let’s review: Concerns about the game’s life started cropping up in back in 2021, when it was delayed indefinitely and continued malingering according to Pearl Abyss’ financial reports for Q3 and Q4 of 2022. We also saw it downgraded from an MMORPG to a merely multiplayer-optional title, a feature PA last mentioned back in 2021. Finally in 2023, the RPG came back with a gameplay trailer at Gamescom, followed by word of more reveals planned for later this year.
It looks as if Gamescom will once again be the stage for some of those reveals, as Pearl Abyss has announced that there will be a playable demo of the RPG on the show floor of Gamescom 2024. This demo will be available all through the event from August 21st to the 25th, and it’s open to the press and to the public, offering a first functional look at the game’s world of Pywel and the protagonist Kliff. Further details aren’t available beyond this reveal, but it would seem like Pearl Abyss is ready to dust this one off once again.
#CrimsonDesert is coming to #gamescom2024 and will be playable at the Pearl Abyss booth!
To those who plan on attending @gamescom, we're counting down the days until we can welcome you to the booth and have you join the lone mercenary in his fights ⚔️ pic.twitter.com/yHf4rtyq4a— Crimson Desert (@CrimsonDesert_) July 25, 2024
