WRUP: Turns out this was buried in the ice for a good reason edition

So let’s start with the good part. The creature we found buried in the ice is not going to try to eat our brains or any other parts of our bodies. It’s not a shapeshifter and we don’t think it’s actually harmful in any way. When we warmed it up it let out one ear-piercing moan that made someone’s nose start bleeding, but it apologized right away and said it was just a morning thing. It’s not actually trying to hurt us.

Unfortunately, it’s also really annoying. Like, we’re trying to set ourselves up for long-term survival and yet it insists that it’s “nacho time” pretty much every few hours. It has decided that anything which melts on anything else makes nachos. Also, somehow its sweat is liquor, but it tastes awful, but it still gets this thing drunk. It does jumping jacks over and over and then it gets wasted until it can’t keep balance to do them. Frankly, we see why someone buried it in the ice. We’re going to see if it plays our new game of “conk yourself on the head and get re-buried,” so let us know what you’re playing while we do that.

Bonus question: What’s an obscure series (books, video games, TV show, doesn’t matter) that you just personally dislike? Remember, you’re not talking about big stuff here but obscure pieces of media.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Aside from puppy duties, it’s a light gaming event weekend for me. I may try to hit my exercise games harder… or grind in Splatoon to prepare for the final event, heh.

If Firefly is too close to mainstream, then uh… the Phantasy Star Online games? I had some fun tinkering with Phantasy Star 1, Phantasy Star 3, and Phantasy Star 4 (never finished any), but I just couldn’t get into the online games. It’s not you, PSO, it’s very much me!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’m hoping to get into Guild Wars 2 this weekend finally. I’ve been too swamped this week to do it, so this weekend, clear me some space!

Does anyone remember the TV series LEXX? It was on around the same time as Farscape when sci-fi was having a moment, and unlike Farscape, it was absolutely, truly dreadful.

Carlo Lacsina (@UltraMudkipEX, YouTube, Twitch): I’ll probably play through Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, and Wuthering Waves. I’m in my gacha era right now.

Bonus: Tough question! I don’t know if it’s THAT obscure, but I don’t really like the show/Manhea (Korean Manga) “Solo Leveling.” Basically the world gets attacked by MMO tropes. Like seriously, that’s what happens. Society then literally transforms to where folks do raids to kill dungeon bosses. Main character basically gets the ability to level up after a botched raid. I don’t like this recent trend in media where video game tropes are unironically in-your-face about it.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I’ve found my way back into Guild Wars 2, so that’s likely going to be a primary feature; I’ve put away the Weaver, have picked up a Necromancer, and am slowly moving through the base open world to collect hero points and try out Reaper. Beyond that there will be some Final Fantasy XIV projects, Elite: Dangerous materials gathering, and more silky smooth Lord of the Rings Online Captain adventuring.

Bonus: I was looking for something to fill the Warehouse 13-shaped hole in my heart, stumbled upon the show Haven, and didn’t really have as good of a time with it as others who drew parallels to the two series. Personally speaking, The Librarians was a better analogue.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Playing some FFXIV, spending some time with my family, and just… trying to breathe, I guess. It has been a pretty terrible week, but I repeat myself with that lately.

I have a perhaps irrational distaste for the Yo-Kai Watch series, which is still pretty obscure in the grand scheme of things. It’s just always rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn’t even tell you why. Beyond that, I still have a personal and deep-seated grudge toward the short-lived series FlashForward, which was aggressively advertising itself around the time Lost was airing and just… looking like it was trying to do the same thing again. There were a lot of shows doing that at the time, none of them were very good, but that one somehow stuck in my head.

Tyler Edwards (blog): Twiddling my thumbs in World of Warcraft while I wait for the expansion to fully launch. Got two more Covenant campaigns and a few more cosmetics to unlock, and then I’ll have done all I care to in Shadowlands.

Bonus question: Probably tonnes of stuff I’ve forgotten precisely because it was obscure. Since Chris reminded me of it, I’ll say The Librarians. Only watched the pilot, but it was painful.

Pierre, patron: After a very busy summer at work with no time for gaming, I’m back home and found some time to go back to Cyberpunk 2077 with the Phantom Liberty DLC. I’ll try to finish the game this time, I’d like to see how the story ends. No MMO for me at the moment, I don’t have enough time to invest in what I now consider as very time consuming games; sorry MMOs, I still like you anyway. But I think that beside the lack of time, my lack of interest for MMOs these last few years also comes from the fact that they are getting more and more solo-player friendly and don’t encourage grouping up. I feel they have been somehow “desocialized,” and as the social part is what I enjoyed the most, they do not suit my taste as well as they used to.

Bonus question: I hope the TV show Preacher can be considered obscure; I think so, as I only know about it because my best friend likes the show a lot and made me watch the first two episodes. I really can’t stand it, I got bored and disgusted very fast and couldn’t find any kind of interest in the show.
