The Daily Grind: What are the advantages of playing MMOs as a hobby?

Have you ever had to explain or defend your hobby to someone who doesn’t share that? Sometimes that can be a positive experience with an interested listener, sometimes painfully awkward. The worst kinds of those conversations I’ve seen are the ones where people come at you from the viewpoint that video games are pointless and you’re wasting your life.

While there are downsides to playing MMOs, it’s helpful to have in mind some of the many upsides to enjoying them in moderation as a hobby. So what would you say if someone asked you what are the good things about playing MMOs? How have they benefited your life?
