We literally have Starship Troopers at home, Sony

If you’ve enjoyed your time in Helldivers 2 enough that you’ve considered going to see a film based on the co-op shooter, then you’re in luck because Sony has announced that a live action film is currently in production.

The reveal came by way of PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who was speaking as part of Sony’s press conference at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, which is ostensibly about consumer technology and not about films. Qizalbash simply noted that Sony Pictures will be collaborating with Sony Productions to make the film, providing no other details, and Sony Pictures itself hasn’t made a formal announcement.

As one might expect, there is no shortage of people pointing out how this movie was literally already made in the form of Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers (which happens to have a pretty good co-op game in its own right). Some fans are even suggesting that Verhoeven should take the director’s chair or that Casper Van Dien should star, while others aren’t exactly certain that Hollywood would make the right calls or that it should be made at all. However you’re feeling, this is going to be a thing.
