The rumors of some form of deal between Tencent and Ubisoft’s Guillemot family owners now have a fresh wrinkle this week, as new insider reporting suggests that the two are considering creating a venture together that would offer benefits to both Tencent and Ubisoft.
Anonymous sources who are reportedly close to the matter say that a deal is in the works for the Guillemot family and Tencent to form a new unnamed venture, then move some of Ubisoft’s properties over to it. The deal will supposedly grant Tencent a stake in the new company and control over some of Ubisoft’s properties as well as extend its reach outside of China, while Ubisoft would see a potential boost to its value out of the deal.
As we alluded to earlier, Ubisoft has been looking at ways to improve its value to investors after some disastrous financial quarters that have led to game delays and layoffs, while Ubisoft heads remained very tight-lipped when its investor board tried to find out details.
