It’s managing the isometric MMO Tibia. It’s putting together the PvPvE shooter MMO Persist Online. And at the top of this month, CipSoft is now also the developer for the browser-based city-building MMO The Settlers Online, taking over the game from Ubisoft Dusseldorf after 15 years.
“This is a bittersweet moment for us, as The Settlers Online has and will always be a very special game for us,” the original studio writes. “However, the time has come for us to pass the torch to a new partner. We want to see the game grow further and evolve, and there is no doubt for us that CipSoft will be up more than to the task.”
Readers will recall that Ubisoft Dusseldorf was one of many Ubisoft studios around the globe affected by mass layoffs earlier this year.
CipSoft put out its own address to players about the passing of the torch, admitting that the transition will take time, meaning that players will likely not see many changes while the studio gets a handle on things. That said, it also promises to take stewardship of the MMO seriously and “develop and grow The Settlers Online with you in a responsible and lasting way.”
In the meantime, the MMO has rerun its Easter event from now until May 5th, bringing back stripey eggs and crazy rabbits to players’ home islands once more.
