It’s a big day for co-op shooters: Not only did PWE announce a new one, but Holospark is releasing one officially today. I’m talking about Earthfall, which rolled out to Steam, Xbox One, and PS4 last night. It’s not an MMORPG; rather, it’s a smaller-scale multiplayer game with an emphasis on working together rather than brutally murdering each other a la the usual flavors of the month.
“Earthfall is a four-player cooperative shooter that challenges players to survive hordes of ruthless alien drones and their inscrutable masters. Traverse a ravaged and depopulated Pacific Northwest with friends or AI teammates in a relentless guerilla war against a dominating extraterrestrial force. Save yourself from the ever-changing horde and save what’s left of humanity. Utilize futuristic weaponry, augment deployable barricades with fire or electricity, control mounted turrets, and throw absolutely everything you got at 10 levels of story-driven co-operative play.”
The game is currently live on Steam at a $29.99 price point and a “mostly positive” overall reviewset, though more recent reviews are more mixed.
Incoming swarm approaching! Seattle-based game developer Holospark proudly announced today that their cooperative online first-person shooter, Earthfall, is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and PC via Steam for $29.99. Harkening to the frenetic pace and sweat-inducing action of classic co-op shooters of Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead, players join-up into teams of four to annihilate swarms of savage alien monsters. Use team-based tactics to set-up choke points with barricades, land mines, and turrets, and clear each area of alien scum to take back the Earth block by block, city by city. Survivors will arm themselves with handguns, assault rifles, shotguns, and grenades, as well-advanced modern weaponry crafted through 3D printers found in various locations.

Big, bad and ugly, the Beast is a wrecking ball that wreaks havoc wherever it treds. You may be surprised to learn that not only can it ravage your team by smacking them into oblivion, it can also vomit plasma at you from afar. The Beast is a huge, making it an easy target for grenades, propane tank traps, and mounted gun fire – all of which you will most definitely need to stop its rampage.

Drones are the mindless fodder that will continue to throw themselves at you wave after wave. However, unlike typical hordes of enemies, our Drones come in multiple flavors. The Light Drone is pretty easy to kill, while the Heavy Drone will take a few more rounds to the chest before it is down. Don’t get too distracted by their claws, as you will also face the Ranged Drone which lobs gooey slime at you from a distance. These three different Drone types make up the bulk of the alien army.

“For the last couple of years, the Earthfall team has been working hard to offer players an exciting co-op shooter that matched the intensity and quality that Left 4 Dead set nearly 10 years ago,” said Russell Williams, CEO of Holospark. “Finally, the launch of Earthfall has arrived and we want to welcome all our new PS4 and Xbox One players, with a special shout-out to our Steam Early Access fans who have supported us along the way. With free DLC updates planned every four to six weeks, now is the perfect time to grab a friend – or three – and go mow down some aliens!”
